Stanton Biddle is named the 2010 Library Diversity Research Honoree

CHICAGO – Dr. Stanton Biddle, director of Middle States Accreditation Review, Baruch College, the City University of New York, has been named the 2010 Achievement in Library Diversity Research Honoree. As part of its ongoing support of the propagation of library-based diversity research, the ALA Council Committee on Diversity and the ALA Office for Diversity are pleased to recognize Dr. Biddle for his contributions to the profession and his promotion of diversity within it. The Office for Diversity began designating this honor in 2004.

With a full career in academic and research libraries, Biddle’s contributions to the professional literature include titles on university planning, African American history and culture and numerous presentations promoting resources for exploring the history and culture of underrepresented populations. He also served as editor of the proceedings of the first two National Conferences of African American Librarians.

Biddle served as chief librarian at Baruch College where he also served as administrative services librarian. (Read More at the ALA Press Release Site)

Loum Recieves 2010 Zora Neale Hurston Award

Congratulations to Anthony Loum from Brooklyn Public Library. He recieved the 2nd Annual Zora Neale Hurston Award on Monday, June 28, 2010.

Loum was selected for his work in planning and ensuring the quality of programs delivered by the Brooklyn Public Library in the 2009 Big Read for which Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God was the chosen book. Loum coordinated with key partners for the use of performance spaces, performers and the materials used and donated for the book discussions, screenings and craft workshops. These programs were innovative and targeted to a variety of age groups and took place at locations across the city. The programs and events introduced Hurston to a new audience of readers and provided professional development workshops to support the continued reading of Hurston’s works in city schools.
